To ensure that trainees can identify and manage appropriately their personal involvement in and contribution to the process of psychotherapy that they practice.

A basic understanding of psycho-pharmacology.
Diagnostic assessment of presenting issues
classification of psychopathology including the use of DSM IV.
Comparative diagnostic criteria of commonly presenting aspects of mental illness.
Knowledge of commonly prescribed psychotropic agents.
Human development from infancy to old age.
Cognitive and social development.
Some ethical issues in therapy and ways of responding.

Research and Social Science
Participants will be able to demonstrate confidence, knowledge and understanding in understanding of key concepts in social science. To develop beliefs, capabilities and behaviours to form a critical approach to the conduct of a research study, the collation of the data from a research study, and the analysis of study data to enable valid conclusions, and informed decisions to be made.
Three weekends also available for CPD.
